Children's Museum Exhibit Graphics
By Lauren Booth and Karrigan Jones
Project Brief:
We were tasked with creating environmental graphics for a museum space. Karrigan and I narrowed down on a topic centered around the Amazon Rainforest that was aimed towards kids. While very informational, the bright and colorful illustrations make the space inviting for children. We created wall graphics that represented the environment of the Amazon rainforest and highlighted different endangered animals.

Visitors will be put in the shoes of a biologist, discovering key information throughout the exhibit to fill in an interactive visitor guide. Visitors that complete the Jungle Safari Challenge can collect a prize at the end of the exhibit!
The first wall introduces the concept of the space and invites the viewers in with some fast fun facts and graphic visuals. Before entering the environment, the viewers are able to visualize a map which adds perspective to the experience.
The next wall transitions into endangered animals. This wall highlights 4 different animals of the Amazon that are facing extinction. The fun, cartoonish style of the animals allows kids to be able to connect with them better. The text is all centered around eye-level, and visual weight is distributed with some animals in the trees and others on the ground.
The endangered animals wall transitions into a graphic representing new species that are being discovered in the Amazon. This connects with the endangered wall, because even as these animals are being discovered, they are going extinct.
The final wall discusses deforestation- which is the main cause of the loss of biodiversity in the rainforest. This wall includes stats discussing the loss of the rainforest. This wall brings forth a global focus into the space, connecting the viewers with the world around them.

The walls show a progression towards deforestation as the background thins out from lush forest into empty space. This creates a visual emphasis on the topics discussed in the gallery.
Narrative Literature:
The narrative literature piece adds an interactive and entertaining element to the exhibit. The piece is an accordion fold brochure which includes a section that involves the children finding answers to questions throughout the exhibit. The questions are answered with stickers of the animals included in the brochure.
Branding:
The color palette chosen demonstrates high contrast and depth when executed on designs. The bright orange and pink jumps out against the lush green and dark brown. These colors keep the illustrations light and fun while mimicking nature.
The typefaces chosen also reflect a child-friendly design. The heading is blocky and bold, but easy to read against a busy background.
The pattern is only used in select materials, but combines repeated elements of illustration into a vivid image
